Statement from the York School Committee
Re: Superintendent Search
Dear YSD parents and guardians,
On Monday, the Bangor Daily News reported that Tim Doak has been selected as the next Superintendent of Schools of the York School Department. The announcement is a bit premature in that, by Maine statute, the decision to hire a superintendent of schools must be accomplished by a majority vote of the School Committee. After deliberations and discussions held in Executive Session on Wednesday evening, 29 March, the School Committee authorized the Chair to begin contract negotiations with Mr. Doak, and that process is proceeding on track to allow the required vote to occur at the regularly scheduled School Committee meeting on Wednesday, April 5. The other finalist candidate, CRES Principal Sean Murphy, was informed of the intentions of the School Committee on the morning of 30 March.
A press release and more robust announcement will follow the April 5th meeting. We invite you to join our public meeting in person at the York Public Library at 7pm; the meeting is also televised and available as a recording on our website following the meeting.
We appreciate the input and time invested by our school community and search committee in selecting our finalists.

Thank you to the parents and children who visited us at Math Night. As promised, they played games, solved puzzles, and enjoyed practicing and learning math. Parents and adults even learned a thing or two.

Our Third Grade class participated in Market Day where students learned about buying and selling, advertising and a little friendly competition.

Math Night has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 28. Please mark your calendars and plan on visiting us at the York Middle School Wildcat Room from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The agenda will include a brief presentation on Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for Math. Attendees will visit multiple stations to play games, solve puzzles, and read books, all while learning math. We sure hope you and your K-8 students will be able to join us!

How much fun is it to earn a "camping day" to pitch tents and "toast" marshmallows by headlight in Mrs. Koelker's classroom?

Math Night, originally scheduled for tonight, Tuesday evening (Pi Day!), will be rescheduled due winter storm. We will let you know the new date as soon as it is determined!

The YHS Eco Team members met with Mrs. LaVecchia and students from our CRES Green Team. While having a lively exchange of ideas both learned a lot from one another! A representative from Mr. Fox Composting also joined the meeting. The children were excited to report on their initiatives in our cafeteria to encourage all students to learn about the benefits of placing uneaten food into our composing bins instead of into the trash.

CRES students were excited to receive a surprise visit during their lunchtime by YHS Seniors from both the girl's and boy's ice hockey teams. The teammates shared some stick handling tips and signed eagerly sought-after autographs!

Come cheer on the YHS Unified Basketball team today at 3:15 at the High School auditorium. It is their last home game of the season. Seniors will be honored for their participation. Be there!
